Frequently Asked Questions About Pilates?
What Is Mind-Body Exercise?
Joseph Pilates believed "strong mind, strong body". The brain and the body work
together to achieve true strength. Pilates is not an exercise that you can "zone" out
on. Concentration, focus and control are a necessary part of your workout. Besides,
it's much more fun, and intense, to get your mind involved with what you are doing!
Despite what some might say, the odd looking equipment is not for medieval torture.
The Reformer, Cadillac (Trapeze Table) and the Wunda Chair  are the most popular
pieces of traditional apparatus developed by Joseph H. Pilates. Each apparatus uses
simple spring resistance and pulleys to provide a huge variety of strengthening and
stretching exercises. The equipment is extremely versatile and is designed to support
and challenge your body during movements. The Fit Flow Pilates Studio also has Clara
Barrels. Exercises on the Clara Barrel are restorative for people exercises for people
with
osteoporosis, scoliosis and arthritis.
Can Anyone Do Pilates?
The Fit flow Pilates Studio uses a combination of mat and equipment exercises.
Mat work is just one component of the whole system of Pilates.  Mat work can be
more challenging because you must support your own body weight throughout the
exercises. This  is a great way to understand your body and the learn principles of
Pilates. Mat work is unsafe for some individuals with injury or illness and not all
exercises benefit everyone. The Pilates Apparatus provides support for your body
and allows for more range of movement.  The specially designed springs help
tailor the degree of difficulty as well as provide unique challenges. A combination
of mat and equipment work is an ideal and complete Pilates workout.
Pilates is versatile and can be done daily. We recommend 2-3 times per week.
Consistency is the key to your practice and you should combine studio work with
home study.
Joseph Pilates said "you'll feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 and have a
whole new body in 30 sessions."  You may experience weight loss and reduced
clothing sizes in just a short time, more important though, you will feel better
immediately. Your practice will provide results for a lifetime, always improving
elements of your structure and challenging your body and mind.
